About the Bodo Alphabet

The Bodo language uses the Devanagari script for writing. Bodo is a Sino-Tibetan language spoken primarily in Assam, India. The script was adopted in the 20th century and uses standard Devanagari letters adapted for Bodo phonology. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India.

History

Bodo was traditionally an oral language. In the 19th century, Christian missionaries introduced Roman script for Bodo. However, in 1963, the Devanagari script was officially adopted for Bodo. This change was made to align with other Indian languages and promote literacy in the region.
