How to type Japanese on this page

You can click the on-screen keys, type with your physical keyboard, or do both. The text box will receive the characters either way.

1. Click inside the text box.
2. Type Japanese characters using the layout.
3. Use Shift for the alternate characters shown on keys.
4. Copy the text or download it when you are done.

Voice typing for Japanese

If your browser supports speech recognition, you can use voice typing to dictate Japanese. This can help when you want to write longer sentences quickly or when you are checking how something sounds.

After dictation, review the text and adjust it. Voice typing can be a fast start, and the keyboard is useful for quick corrections and adding characters exactly as you want them.

Click Voice to start, speak clearly, then stop and edit before copying.

Using the on-screen Japanese keys

Click a key to insert that character at the cursor position. This is helpful on mobile and on computers where you do not have Japanese input enabled.

If you prefer your physical keyboard, you can still click for just a few characters. Many learners type most of a sentence and click the characters they are practicing.
