About the Bosnian Alphabet
The Bosnian alphabet is identical to Croatian and Serbian Latin alphabets, consisting of 30 letters based on Gaj's Latin alphabet. Bosnian can also be written in Cyrillic, though Latin is more common. The alphabet is phonetic, with each letter representing one sound. Bosnian is one of three official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
History
The Bosnian Latin alphabet is based on Gaj's Latin alphabet, standardized in the 19th century for South Slavic languages. During Yugoslav times, both Latin and Cyrillic were used. After Bosnian independence in 1992, Latin became the predominant script, though both remain official. The alphabet is shared with Croatian and Serbian Latin.
