About the Georgian Alphabet
The Georgian alphabet uses the Mkhedruli script with 33 letters. It is one of only 14 alphabets in the world and has a unique, rounded appearance. Georgian is a Kartvelian language with no known linguistic relatives outside its language family. The alphabet has no uppercase or lowercase distinction.
History
The Georgian alphabet was created in the 3rd century BCE, making it one of the oldest alphabets still in use. The current Mkhedruli script evolved from earlier forms (Asomtavruli and Nuskhuri) and became dominant in the 11th century. The alphabet was inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2016.
