About the Montenegrin Alphabet
The Montenegrin alphabet has 30 letters in both Cyrillic and Latin scripts. It includes two unique letters not found in Serbian: Ś/С́ and Ź/З́, which represent palatalized s and z sounds. Both scripts are official and have perfect one-to-one correspondence. The alphabet was standardized in 2009.
History
The Montenegrin alphabet was officially standardized in 2009 after Montenegro's independence. It is based on the Serbian alphabet with the addition of two new letters (Ś/С́ and Ź/З́) to represent sounds specific to Montenegrin dialects. Both Cyrillic and Latin scripts are used equally.
