About the Nepali Alphabet
The Nepali alphabet uses the Devanagari script, identical to the script used for Hindi and Sanskrit. Nepali is an Indo-Aryan language and the official language of Nepal. The script is an abugida where each consonant carries an inherent vowel sound that can be modified with diacritical marks.
History
Nepali has been written in Devanagari script since ancient times. The language evolved from Sanskrit and Prakrit languages. The modern Nepali alphabet was standardized in the 20th century. Nepal officially adopted Devanagari as the script for Nepali in the mid-20th century.
