About the Slovenian Alphabet
The Slovenian alphabet uses the Latin script with 25 letters. It includes three letters with carons: č, š, and ž. The alphabet is based on Gaj's Latin alphabet, shared with Croatian and other South Slavic languages. Slovenian spelling is largely phonetic, with each letter representing one sound.
History
The Slovenian alphabet was standardized in the 19th century based on Gaj's Latin alphabet, developed by Ljudevit Gaj for South Slavic languages. The current 25-letter alphabet was officially adopted in the mid-19th century and has remained stable since then. It replaced earlier writing systems including the Bohorič alphabet.
