About the Tamazight Alphabet
The Tamazight alphabet uses the Tifinagh script, an ancient Berber writing system that has been revived and standardized for modern use. The Neo-Tifinagh alphabet consists of 33 letters and is used to write various Berber languages, particularly in Morocco and Algeria. It is written from left to right in its modern form.
History
Tifinagh is one of the oldest alphabets in the world, with origins dating back over 2,500 years. The ancient script was used by Berber peoples across North Africa. The modern Neo-Tifinagh was standardized in 2003 by the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture in Morocco. It was added to Unicode and is now taught in Moroccan schools.
